Shelter
The Stepping Stones Shelter provides emergency shelter to people in need and at times of crisis. We also answer questions on housing related needs and refer people to other area resources. It is difficult to know how many people are homeless in any given community. It is particularly difficult to count the number of homeless in rural areas. According to the U.S. census, the number of people living in Wisconsin homeless and emergency shelters increased by 9% between 1990 and 2000, a jump that mirrored the state's overall population increase during that time. During their stay, residents of Stepping Stones Shelter work closely with the shelter staff. Residents set goals to work on during their stay. They also receive information and referrals to secure more stable housing and maintain economic sufficiency.
